It is safe to say that food is our passion – eating it, creating it, and serving it to you! Everything on our menu is prepared using the freshest ingredients and we aim to support local markets whenever possible. Sweet Potato Baby's pastries are inspired by Chef Aryen's European upbringing in Naples, Italy.  They are delicate and richly flavored and reminiscent of the dainty delights you will find in the finest pasticcerias across Italy.

Aryen Moore-Alston

EXECUTIVE CHEF/OWNER

Aryen Moore-Alston has been cooking in front of a camera since she was a young child.  She would often set up her parent's video camera in the kitchen and conduct cooking shows...but that was just the beginning.

This dynamic chef grew up in Naples, Italy, lived in Japan, has traveled all over the world and speaks Japanese and Italian fluently.  She exudes an infectious confidence and energetic personality and just her description of food will make your mouth water - and she hasn't even begun to cook.

Aryen's fascination with Italian and Asian cultures has been the best training for this diligent chef.  As a busy young mom, juggling work responsibilities, her commitment to healthy eating and heavy involvement within the entertainment industry, Moore-Alston focuses on creating meals that are flavorful, unique, fresh and ideal for sharing with family and friends.

Aryen graduated from Spelman College, where she led a team of female computer scientists who programmed robotic dogs to play soccer without human intervention (SpelBots) and has worked as a security consultant, IT customer service rep for Fortune 500 companies, casting director in California, choreographer, cooking show producer and a host of other titles.  She is also the host/chef of This House is Cooking!

After her appearance on Food Network Star - Season 10, Chef Aryen made the decision to stay in the culinary field and realized that food was her passion and what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.  Following Food Network Star, Chef Aryen received training from Escoffier International School of Culinary Arts and believes in constantly being a student of ones craft so she is always studying something.

As the Executive Chef and Owner of Sweet Potato Baby, Chef Aryen focuses on dynamic, flavorful and unique food pairings found at some of the top dining establishments around the world.  Sweet Potato Baby is approaching its two year anniversaray and in that short amount of time has received the 2015 National Award from SCORE/Sam's Club as "America's Small Business Champion", Thumbtack's "Best Company in Customer Service" and named as one of the "Top Ten Companies to Watch" from the Greater Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce.  

Chef Aryen Moore-Alston is a Wilton Cake Method Certified Instructor, professional member of the American Culinary Federation and the Chef-in-Residence for the Jay Uiberall Culinary Academy at Knowledge Quest, Inc. where she teaches high school students culinary and pastry arts and hospitality management after school twice a week.  Sweet Potato Baby is a member of the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) and MunaLuchi Bridal "The Coterie."
